If you’ve watched exotic Polynesian boats pass you by as you walk the seawall and wonder what they’re doing, crave the freedom of floating on waves or just want to try a new sport, then come out and play with us! Our introduction program is perfect for people who have never been in an outrigger or are just learning.

What do I need to bring?

Wear comfortable clothing to exercise in that ideally wicks away moisture from the skin to keep you warm. Please avoid wearing cotton as it drains body heat when wet.

Wear shoes that you feel comfortable getting wet (old runners, sandals, rubber boots, neoprene booties). A hat, sunscreen, and a bottle of water are also essential in sunshine or rain.

Do NOT bring anything into the boat that is valuable as it may float away or get damaged when wet.

Do bring an extra set of clothes to change into in case you get wet.

What if I want to keep paddling after?

Those people wanting to continue after completing the month long Introduction program will be credited $50 off the cost of an annual membership of $310 Cdn (GST extra). This covers the year membership season of paddling, equipment use, and coaching.

Do I need previous experience?

Anyone of varying abilities can come out and try outrigger canoeing. There is no prerequisite or paddling experience necessary. Swimming ability is an asset, but life jackets are mandatory and provided. Instruction of emergency capsize recovery is compulsory with every Intro group.
